A second-night example
Button and the petal doorstep
A complete new story with the same friends; about 2 minutes to read aloud.
The next evening, Button opened the door of his teapot and found his firefly friend waiting by the pond. Her little night-light glowed beneath her wing. Button waved, his red scarf trailing over the doorstep.
"The apple tree has dropped its petals," said the firefly. "Shall we bring a few home?" Button liked that idea. His doorstep could use something soft for visitors to sit on.
Under the tree lay pink petals, curled like tiny cups. Button picked up three, but when he reached for a fourth, the first three slipped between his paws. He looked at the petals. Then he looked at his scarf.
"A little blanket can be a little basket," he said. He spread the scarf on the grass, and together they gathered a small handful of petals onto it. Button held two corners; the firefly held the other two.
Step by step, they carried their soft bundle back past the humming pond. At the teapot, they arranged the petals beside the door and sat down together. The firefly's light made each pink edge shine.
"A seat for a friend," said Button. When they had said goodnight, he shook out his scarf and wrapped it around his toes. Outside, a few pink petals rested on the doorstep, and the garden grew still.
