Bedtime stories for three-year-olds.

Three-year-olds love a pattern they can join in with: a goodnight for every friend, a count to five, a sound to make together. These five free stories each have one simple pattern, a few familiar characters and a cozy ending. Here's what each one offers, so you can choose tonight's.

5 complete stories·about 2 minutes each·free to read

  5. trucks · about 2 minutes to read aloud

How to choose between them

If your child loves saying things with you, choose Hop or Little Digger: both have a goodnight for every friend. If they love counting, Mother Hen counts her chicks to five, twice.

If bedtime means one more game, Scout puts every toy to bed first. If they like sounds, purr along with Pepper the cat, slower and softer each time.

These are our suggestions from reading the stories, not an assessment of what every three-year-old needs. Three-year-olds often want the same story again and again, and that's a lovely choice too.
